What kind of teacher am I?

I am a member of Sound Sense, the organisation for community music leaders. This means I have signed up to the Music Leader’s Code of Practice, which goes like this:

I promise that I will:

 Be well prepared and organised
Be safe and responsible
Have appropriate musical skills
Work well with people
Evaluate and reflect on my work
Commit to my own professional development

I need you, as a student, to:

Listen
Ask questions
Have a go
Arrive on time
Bring your notebook
Work and play between lessons

I have an enhanced DBS check and full public liability insurance.

Individual lessons take place at my house in Meersbrook, on a beautiful walnut upright piano from 1880.  I often use a computer with appropriate software in lessons and may recommend online resources or apps.

Software used includes:
Sibelius – for reading and writing music notation
Audacity – for recording performances and editing sound files
Garageband – for creating music
Launchpad – for generating beats
However, I also use old-fashioned pencils and notebooks!

I use a personalised approach depending on your previous experience and will use different tutor books for different students.  Often, I will find pieces from a variety of sources to make sure you are developing musical skills across the board.
